Notelix ("the app") is a handwriting-first notes and PDF-annotation app operated by Shixiong Li ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app handles and what it does not. In short: your notes live on your device, we don't run ads, and we don't sell or share your personal data.
If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at [email protected].
Everything you create — notes, drawings, handwriting, imported PDFs, page templates, tags, and settings — is stored locally on your device. We do not operate a server that holds your notes, and we cannot read them.
If you enable iCloud sync, your notes are synced through your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. The data is stored in your private iCloud database under your Apple ID — we cannot see or access it. You can manage or remove this data in your device's iCloud settings. If you don't enable iCloud sync, nothing leaves your device through this feature.
Signing in uses Sign in with Apple. We receive a stable, app-specific identifier (and, only if you choose to share it, your name) so the app can recognize you across launches and apply your plan. We never receive your Apple ID password. You may use Hide My Email, and you can revoke access at any time in Settings → your Apple ID → Sign in with Apple.
When you ask the in-app AI assistant for help, the relevant content of the page you're working on — an image (screenshot) of the page, any text you type, and a transcription of the relevant handwriting — is sent over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, by way of our own processing server, to our AI routing provider OpenRouter (operated in the United States), which forwards it to the underlying model provider (such as Google, OpenAI, or Anthropic) solely to generate the handwritten answer you requested. Depending on the model used, processing may occur in the United States or other regions. This happens only when you actively invoke the assistant. Please avoid entering information you do not wish to be processed by a third-party AI service. Your content is used only to produce your answer — it is not used for advertising and is not sold to anyone.
If product analytics are enabled, Notelix records anonymous, aggregate usage events (for example, "a note was created" or "the AI was used") through TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service. These signals contain no personal data, no device advertising identifiers, and no cross-app tracking, and they are not linked to your identity. We use them only to understand which features are useful.
Notelix Premium is sold as an auto-renewing subscription processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment-card details; Apple handles the transaction and provides us only with the subscription status needed to unlock Premium.
We rely on the following providers, each acting only to deliver the feature described:
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Apple (iCloud / CloudKit, Sign in with Apple, App Store) | Optional sync, sign-in, purchases | Your notes (in your own iCloud), an app-specific user ID, subscription status |
| OpenRouter (and the model provider it routes to — e.g. Google, OpenAI, Anthropic) | Generates AI handwriting answers | The page screenshot, typed text, and handwriting transcription you submit to the assistant |
| TelemetryDeck | Anonymous product analytics (when enabled) | Aggregate, non-identifying usage events only |
When you use the AI assistant, the content described above is sent to OpenRouter (United States) and the model provider it routes to, and may be processed in the United States or other regions depending on the model used. By using the AI assistant you understand that this transfer occurs. All other data stays on your device or within your own Apple iCloud account.
Local data remains until you delete a note or delete the app. Deleting the app removes its on-device data. iCloud-synced data can be removed from your iCloud settings. To delete the identifier associated with Sign in with Apple, sign out in the app and revoke access in your Apple ID settings. We do not retain copies of your notes or AI content on our own servers.
Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR or California's CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because your notes are stored on your device and in your own iCloud account, you already control them directly; for anything else, contact us at [email protected] and we will respond within a reasonable period.
Notelix is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and post the new version at https://notelix.app/privacy. Material changes will be reflected before they take effect.
This policy is governed by the laws of the developer’s jurisdiction, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
